Nuremberg – As soon as the dull winter days are over and the sun comes out, the camping season starts. Officially from April 1st - good thing the month started with a hot weekend. “Last year we had almost 10,000 guests, this year we expect the same,” says Dagmar Schmitz, operator of the

Naturcamp Kauerlach

campsite . So the expectations are high.

Camping season got off to a slow start – “Here we go!”

“The start of the season got off to a slow start, a lot of people go south at Easter. Now it starts!” says Schmitz, who has been running the Kauerlach Nature Camp with her husband Thomas for four years. “We have always been campers ourselves,” she says. While on vacation, Dagmar and Thomas Schmitz decided to open their own campsite. Since 2020 they have been running their nature camp directly at the Kauerlacher Weiher.

Camping boom due to Corona – new trend holiday

There was a camping boom, especially during Corona, says campsite operator Schmitz and adds: “Many people bought a mobile home. Some of them stick with it.” In fact, only around 20% of the guests arrive with a tent, the rest with a caravan or motorhome, says Dagmar Schmitz. Now it's time to get the camping equipment out of the basement and start the season - ideally before the huge rush in July and August.
