when things get serious Hugo always appears
." The description comes from a high-ranking union boss who knows first-hand the
role dynamics
that govern the movements at
the top of the Moyano clan
. That exercise was once again exposed in the last few hours in the midst of the tense conflict with the Government over the non-approval of the Truckers joint venture: after the public attacks of his eldest son against half of the libertarian cabinet, Hugo Sr. decided to remove him from the negotiation to take over. personally the efforts in the search for a rapprochement. Things got serious.
The surprising presence of the Truckers boss this Wednesday at the Casa Rosada along with the first line of the CGT leadership, in a meeting that marked the reset of the link between Javier Milei's administration and the union leadership, offered a perfect photo of the
change of strategy that operated in Moyanismo
in the midst of the escalation of tension due to the irresolution of its joint venture.
The reasons that explain Moyano Sr.'s sudden swerve are largely political, but there are also obvious reasons for anxiety that worry him, linked especially to the
sustainable financing of the union's accounts
and, particularly, of the
Truckers'
social work
. Too much at stake to leave it in the hands of Pablo's verbose explosion.
The union leader did not hesitate to remove his son from the center of the scene to take charge of the negotiation. He took advantage of the call from Guillermo Francos and Nicolás Posse to the union leadership and joined the delegation with the hope of enabling a bridge to unblock the complications of their agreement. His move was not naive:
he smelled a change in position of the libertarian government itself
towards the union world and played to benefit from that new scenario.
His aspiration is the same that led him to establish close ties with almost all governments during the last decades. Now
Moyano seeks to strengthen a rapprochement with the Government
that will allow him to open a direct channel with Milei himself, which he completely lacks, except for some old relationship with a couple of officials of the current Executive, such as Francos himself and the former Techint. key role in the dialogue between the union world
and the Casa Rosada.
To a large extent, the result of the efforts to validate the March-April section of your union's salary understanding will offer you a firmer signal about the viability of your objective. So far the negotiations have made progress, but minimal.
Financial emergencies complicate him
daily
and fuel the unrest that within his own union escalates in line with the combative position of his first-born son.
The vast majority of freight transport companies complied with the payment of the increase to drivers agreed upon with Moyano Sr. Only a handful of chambers that bring together SMEs from the interior of the country maintain the resistance. But without official validation of the joint venture, the union is
prevented from collecting the updated union fee with the
45% increase that the Government did not approve, which punishes the Truckers' funds.
There is an
even more onerous complication
. The agreement signed by Moyano with the representatives of Faetyl, Fadeeac and Catac included (as occurred in the two previous agreements) the payment of a
million-dollar contribution from the companies to the social work
of the union (OSCHOCA). The established contribution reaches $10,000 per month per worker (about 200,000 registered in the activity), which totals an additional income of
$2,000 million per month for the coffers of the
union's medical provider. Without approval from the Government, problems threaten Liliana Zulet, Hugo's wife who manages the social work and has been in conflict with Pablo for years.
