The topping-out ceremony in the new Huber House was used as an opportunity to praise those responsible for the Moosburg town hall extension - but also to express self-criticism.

Moosburg

- There was a good mood on Friday morning at the construction site of the "Huber House", which will expand the Moosburg town hall in the future: At the topping-out ceremony, Mayor Josef Dollinger thanked the planners and trades involved for their good performance. He said to architect Bernhard Paringer: “We drew a good deal with you; we have had other experiences in the city.”

345 square meters more space for the town hall

When the construction project, which costs an estimated 2.1 million euros, is completed around the turn of the year - at least according to the current schedule - it will offer the municipality 345 square meters more space. 200 square meters of this will then be office space, and there is also a second staircase and elevator in the four-story building, which ensures that the entire town hall is barrier-free. According to Dollinger, the conversion of the former residents' registration office in the old building will cost another million euros, as, among other things, the entire electrical system needs to be replaced.

The mayor also dared to make a prediction on the occasion: “Without wanting to prejudge the city council, but I think that while we are already renovating the ground floor, I think we also have to tackle the upper floors as soon as possible.

Then Josef Dollinger sounded self-critical: “By temporarily completely closing Herrnstrasse for the construction site, traffic was blocked. This didn't go down well with everyone and I know it was a bit clumsy to not communicate this enough. We should have done it earlier and more professionally, and that's my fault too.” He didn't think it could have as big an impact as it might have had.

Amid the roar of passing trucks, Dollinger said he was still convinced “that the closure was the right decision.” It would not have been possible to work properly with free through traffic. “But I think the issue has now been dealt with and I hope that it will no longer be seen as so tragic in retrospect.”

After carpenter Michael Roider had read out the verdict and broken his empty glass of semi-dry Riesling according to tradition, architect Bernhard Paringer led the guests, including ten city councilors, through the shell of the building and answered questions that remained unanswered after his presentation.

When we finally went to the ground floor, where a snack was set up, many curious visitors took the opportunity and opened the makeshift door into the old, gutted residents' registration office, where instead of busy public traffic, wheelbarrows and building rubble now dominate the scene.
