Female figures are rare in the annals of crime and when they leave their mark, it is often as poisoners. We have rarely seen a murderess wielding the concrete grinder to cut up her lover after having killed him with a rifle shot. This is what Simone Weber was convicted for in 1991.
She died Thursday at the age of 94. This extraordinary character was born in 1929. Her life was a murky novel into which she dragged part of her family and those close to her. Like many women accused of the worst, she never made the slightest confession, despite the considerable evidence accumulated against her after five years of investigation.
The case began in June 1985 with the sudden disappearance in Nancy of Bernard Hettier, 55, and his car. A worker with no history, except that he had one, history, with Simone Weber. She had apparently never come to terms with their breakup.
