Petrol breaks through the 2.5 euro mark even in the city

Petrol at 2.5 euros per served in many petrol stations in the Bel Paese, on the motorway but also in the city, with excise duties weighing just under half. In view of the spring long weekends, when millions of Italians will travel to spend a few days away from home, consumers are once again making their voices heard against high petrol prices. It is no mystery that fuel prices have risen significantly in the last period, reaching, based on the latest QE findings, 1.915 euros/litre for petrol and 1.812 euros/litre for self-service diesel, 2.053 euros/litre for green fuel and 1.953 euros/litre for diesel fuel served. It is Codacons that raises the alarm on the effects of the high cost of petrol on the spring bridges, noting prices above 2.5 euros per liter served both on the motorway and on the urban network. A truly national map of petrol prices created by the association, according to which "on Friday 12 April the highest price was charged on the A21 Piacenza-Brescia, where a liter of green in served mode was equal to 2,549 euro. Still on the A21, but in the province of Alessandria, petrol reached 2.499 euros per liter on the same date. On the urban network, however, the highest prices are charged in the province of Benevento, where two stations exceeded 2.5 euro per litre, with price lists of 2.572 and 2.550 euros/litre respectively, and in the province of Modena, 2.509 euros per litre. Of note is the strange case of a distributor in Via Lungolago Di Capolago in Varese, which communicated to Mimit on 12 April. a price equal to 2.854 euros per liter for petrol. The Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, however, observes that just as there are "a few dozen distributors who charge a higher price for what is served", at the same time there are "several thousand who, to date, charge a lower price than the national average". Average price which, Mimit points out, is today equal to 1.805 euros for diesel and 1.910 euros for petrol, "substantially stable compared to yesterday". The response from Codacons was immediate, replying: Mimit "for the sake of fairness should also specify that there are hundreds of plants that today sell green waste in served mode at prices between 2.2 and 2.3 euros per litre". "The government - comments President Carlo Rienzi - would do well not to look for excuses and to immediately cut fuel excise duties". Precisely on the subject of fuel taxation, the Consumption Training and Research Center (Crc) notes that today in Italy for every liter of petrol purchased by motorists, over 1 euro goes in taxes, equal to 56.4% of the price paid to the pump. "By analyzing the weight of taxation, we discover that in Italy VAT and excise duties weigh 56.4% on petrol and 52.4% on diesel, with a higher incidence than in the rest of Europe,where the weight of the tax burden stops at 52.47% on green and 47.22% on diesel - analyzes the Crc - This means that on each liter of petrol the taxes affect 0.945 euros on average in the EU, and 1.071 euros in Italy; on diesel for 0.801 euros per liter in the EU, 0.941 euros per liter in Italy. In our country, therefore, between 12 and 14 euro cents more are paid in taxes on each liter of fuel compared to the rest of Europe. At current prices the State earns almost 3.2 billion euros per month in fuel taxes: 990.6 million on petrol and almost 2.2 billion euros on diesel". "As price lists at the pump increase, state revenue increase, but the government would do well to also consider the indirect negative effects: the increased spending on supplies and the consequences of high petrol prices on retail prices contract family consumption and cause demand to fall, with huge damage to the economy national", says the president of the Crc scientific committee, Furio Truzzi.
