Highlights: The Lindauer Inn in Schongau is one of the oldest in the old town. The tenant is said to have disappeared from the inn with all his sack and luggage - and left behind a mountain of debts. Even guests who still have a voucher for a visit to the restaurant are angry because they are now left empty-handed. The innkeeper has not yet filed a complaint because he is afraid of the additional costs of a lawyer and he is not the only creditor. The ten-year lease that Krizanac took over two years ago from his Croatian compatriot and predecessor Ivan Vuletic was not properly terminated, but has now been extended by one year. Schongau – “Gasthof for lease.” With this simple note, Christian Lindauer pasted over the menu next to the entrance door. “Currently closed” says the sign in the yard. Guests probably won't be sitting in the beer garden in the near future. Instead, the owner of the inn is busy making things clear in the traditional business. “I've already driven four cubic meters to Erbenschwang,” says the 55-year-old and leads us through the deserted guest rooms on the corner of Löwenstrasse and Christophstrasse.

At the end of 2023, Robert Krizanac had been promoting the inn with “bear offers” and Christmas decorations, but at the end of February the innkeeper apparently threw in the towel and must have already left Schongau. “It didn't come as a complete surprise,” reports Lindauer, but according to his description, the separation was by no means in accordance with the contract. The ten-year lease that Krizanac took over two years ago from his Croatian compatriot and predecessor Ivan Vuletic was not properly terminated, but has now been extended by one year.

Inn in Schongau: Landlord speaks of a large mountain of debt left behind by the innkeeper

“I now have to repair all the damage here and invest a lot of money,” complains Lindauer. According to his report, he is sitting on a mountain of debt that the tenant is said to have left him; the 55-year-old speaks of a five-figure amount. However, he has not yet filed a complaint because he is afraid of the additional costs of a lawyer and he is not the only creditor. “He has no debts to the brewery, they had the deliveries paid for in cash, but other suppliers were more negligent,” Lindauer indicates. Even guests who still have a voucher for a visit to the restaurant are angry because they are now left empty-handed. You can't ask the tenant about this, the former landlord's cell phone number doesn't work.

Lindauer hasn't really paid much attention to a new tenant yet, "I have to clean up first, but if someone gets in touch, I'll step on the gas straight away." He always brings a piece of family history with him out of the restaurant. The inn in the old town is one of the oldest in Schongau. In 1902, the Lindauer family took over the Zum Koch or Kocherlwirtschaft business - named after its previous owner. From then on, people went “to Rosa”, as both Christian Lindauer’s great-grandmother and grandmother had this name.

After the death of his grandmother at the end of 1970, his parents Alfred and Hanni took over the beer business - after a major renovation, Pilsner was available on tap for the first time in Schongau, "an attraction", as it is said in one of the numerous editions of the Schongauer Nachrichten, in which about the Lindau is reported.

The economy was also expanded. After the death of his uncle Franz Lindauer in 1984, who ran his own business as a master butcher in the rear part of the building, this area was turned over to the restaurant - that's why guests sit there in the "Metzgerstüberl".

Christian Lindauer worked with his parents in the company from 1988 to 2012. However, after his parents died, he decided to lease the inn.
