Israel-Iran, emergency UN Security Council meeting tonight

Highlights: An emergency meeting of the UN Security Council will be held this evening at 10pm Italian time, requested by Israel after last night's attack by Iran. "I strongly condemn the serious escalation and call for the immediate cessation of these hostilities", said Secretary General Antonio Guterres. "neither the region nor the world can afford another war", added Guterre. The meeting will take place at the UN's headquarters in New York, New York City and will last for an hour and a half. It will be followed by an emergency session of the U.N. Security Council, to be held at the same time and place as the Security Council meeting, at the United Nations' HQ in New York. The U.S. has called for an immediate end to the hostilities, saying it is "deeply alarmed by the real danger at a regional level" The meeting is expected to last for around an hour, with a possible extension of an hour if necessary. The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to meet again at 9.30pm in the morning.

    "I urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint to avoid any action that could lead to multi-front military clashes in the Middle East", added Guterres, underlining that "neither the region nor the world can afford another war".
