After years of uncertainty caused by the corona pandemic, many Germans are now relying on early booking again. The first people started planning their vacation for the summer of 2024 last fall, according to a statement from the
German Travel Association (DRV)
. “The Germans want to travel and they travel too. For their summer vacation, they are increasingly relying on the security and flexibility of package holidays. The number of Germans who travel organized is increasing,” said Norbert Fiebig, President of the German Travel Association (DRV), at the ITB Berlin travel trade fair. Nevertheless, there are still some travelers who have not yet been able to decide on a holiday destination - but 79 percent of Germans are certain that they will travel.

Every year, the platform selects the best vacation destinations in a variety of categories based on surveys among tens of thousands of travelers. 1. Algarve, Portugal
The Algarve in southern Portugal has long been a popular family travel destination. Because it offers everything you could wish for from a relaxing holiday: breathtaking sandy beaches on the beautiful clear sea, charming cities like Faro and Albufeira as well as exciting excursion destinations like the Benagil Cave or the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
2. Athens, Greece
The Greek islands in particular are a popular travel destination for summer holidays - sun, beach and sea are what families with children who want to recover from a strenuous (school) year look forward to. But the capital Athens also has a lot to offer for those interested in culture. It is considered the cradle of democracy and has numerous ancient sites - from the Acropolis with the Parthenon to the Olympieion. Maybe the little ones are more enthusiastic about the digital planetarium or the toy museum at the marina in Flisvos Marina?
3. Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona also combines a relaxed beach holiday with an exciting city trip. The highlights include the buildings by the architect Antoni Gaudí, who is responsible for, among other things, the Sagrada Família, Casa Milà and Park Güell. However, the PortAventura World amusement park will be of particular interest to families - young and old can choose between 40 attractions, including a wild water ride, a free fall tower and a variety of roller coasters.
4. Brittany, France
The Brittany region in northwestern France is the perfect destination for families who find the Mediterranean too hot in summer. Here you can expect temperatures of an average of 23 and 24 degrees in July and August, although 30 degrees are also possible. There are many seaside resorts in the region that are perfect for families - including Erquy, Cancale or Saint-Quay-Portrieux. There are also numerous activities on offer, from boat trips to mudflat fishing to bicycle tours.
5. Corfu, Greece
There are perfect conditions for a family holiday on Corfu: whether it's swimming on one of the numerous sandy beaches or a trip to the water parks Hydropolis in Acharavi or Aqualand in Ágios Ioánnis - this is how the heat can be tolerated well. The Greek island is also known for its unique underwater world, which can be explored on a glass-bottom boat trip. Not far from Corfu are the islands of Paxos and Antipaxos, which are definitely worth a day trip.
