Just in time, you could say, Wohnbau-GmbH Weilheim invited people to the topping-out ceremony for the three new apartment blocks in the Peißenberg Barbarahof. The construction work has long since progressed beyond the shell construction stage. The first residents are scheduled to move into the new social housing in September.
Peißenberg
– “The ceremony has arrived. “The practiced hand rests”: Luis Bampi confidently and fluently announced the verdict from the scaffolding. The carpenter (company “Holzbau Wagen”) apologized to the party guests for having to read the verses from the piece of paper: “That’s actually not my style.” But there was simply not enough time for intensive preparation. “We want to finish the rest of the construction work now. We are under pressure,” explained Bampi in an interview with the local newspaper. Even during the topping-out ceremony, the construction machinery did not stand still. Two of the three new apartment blocks in Barbarahof are almost finished, a good 20 months after the groundbreaking in September 2022. The first residents are expected to move into the timber frame buildings in September. The apartment block along Loristraße should be ready for occupancy at the end of the year. A total of around 2000 square meters of living space is then available. In his greeting, Mayor Frank Zellner spoke of an “important day for Peißenberg” regarding the lifting ceremony. The need for socially supported housing is high. The town hall boss described the densification in the historic mining settlement as a “good symbol” for the combination of tradition and innovation. Mining has always been a driver of technical progress. This chapter has now been continued with the construction of energy-efficient and sustainable wooden buildings.
District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß speaks of an important day
District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß also spoke of an “important day”. The municipally supported Wohnbau-GmbH managed the project “in difficult times” despite rising construction prices. “We are now on the home stretch with the 30 apartments.” The district administrator proudly emphasized that eleven units were barrier-free and one apartment was even designed to be wheelchair accessible – “and a lift can be installed in the blocks at a later date.” The rental price for the apartments will be 11.5 euros per square meter. However, through “income-oriented funding” (EOF), appropriate deductions are made so that future residents will effectively only pay between five and seven euros. Speaking of costs: the densification of the Barbarahof will ultimately cost around 12.8 million euros.
Buildings fit into the ensemble
According to Wohnbau-GmbH managing director Florian Steinbach, “the amount shouldn’t change much”. In any case, the trades are completely contracted. The outdoor facilities are also expected to be largely completed this year. In contrast to prefabrication, erecting the wooden module parts for the two-storey apartment blocks was relatively quick. The three buildings, which fit wonderfully architecturally into the overall ensemble - the Barbarahof as such remains recognizable - each reached the shell construction stage after three weeks. “This was a very gentle construction method for the residents of the old blocks,” says Steinbach.
