The Houthi militia from Yemen is said to have been involved in the retaliatory attack from Iran on Israel. However, Israel was able to avert a drone attack in the Red Sea in time.
Eilat – The massive attack from Iran on Israel last Saturday was largely repelled. The retaliatory attack was historically the first direct attack from Iranian territory on Israel and follows a suspected Israeli attack on an Iranian embassy building in Syria. In addition to the approximately 300 Israeli rockets, drones and cruise missiles that were fired at Israel, there were also attacks from Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen, according to Israel's military spokesman Daniel Hagari. A drone from Yemen was probably fended off by Israel in time.
Israel repels drone attack from Yemen in Red Sea
Israel's navy was able to shoot down a drone that had entered the country's airspace over the Red Sea on Sunday, according to the Israel Defense Forces. The conservative daily newspaper
Jerusalem Post reports on this.
Accordingly, the drone was initially detected by Israel's air force and naval units and later repelled with the so-called C-Dome, the naval version of the Iron Dome missile defense system. The unmanned missile was eliminated near the city of Eilat, Israel's only access to the Red Sea. Israel blames the Houthi militia in Yemen for the drone attack, of which there is also a video, in the Middle East conflict.
Israeli Iron Dome air defense system prevents Houthi rebel drone attack in Red Sea
Israel's Iron Dome is one of the most powerful air defense systems in the world. The state had been working on a naval version since 2014 - it was used operationally for the first time shortly before the Iranian attack last Saturday. On board a Sa'ar 6-class corvette, the air defense system was also able to identify and intercept "enemy flying objects" in the Red Sea late on Monday (April 8).
The Iron Dome once again proved useful in defense against the large-scale Iranian retaliatory attack at the weekend. Israel and allied forces from the USA, Great Britain, France and Jordan were able to jointly intercept 99 percent of the missiles and drones fired.
Iran is considered a supporter of the Houthi rebels - Yemen did not claim responsibility for the attack on Israel
Since Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 and the ongoing war in the Middle East, attacks by the Houthi militia, which is closely allied with Hamas, have increased significantly. The Houthi rebels' targets are usually the Israeli port city of Eliat and merchant ships in the Red Sea. The Shiite political-military movement in Yemen explains the attacks on Israel with the support of Hamas and the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. With help from Iran and Lebanon, the Houthis have expanded their weapons repertoire in recent years and are now able to produce their own combat drones and long-range missiles, as
ZDF
reports.

The Houthi civil war party has not yet confirmed that it was involved in Iran's attack on Israel on Saturday. However, Tehran-backed rebels have already described the attack as a justified response to the "crime" in Damascus, killing two Iranian brigadier generals. Shortly before the retaliatory strike, Iran detained an Israeli ship in the Red Sea.
