Legendary Lindl-Hoagascht in Irschenberg proves: folk music belongs to the youth

Highlights: The Traunsteiner Lindl Hoagascht in Irschenberg was organized by the young harp duo Sunnaschein. After three hours it was clear: folk music belongs to the youth. The seven members of the Tegernseer Tanzlmusi took over the in-and-out playing - and yet found themselves on stage that evening as the seniors. Andal Raab, who stepped in as an announcer, questioned all the groups in a somewhat casual manner. He commented on and parried their statements in such a witty and unabashed manner that the audience was not sure whether they were witnessing the birth of a new Valentine's-Pot-esque, bearish-anarchic-punk-like-rebellious-cabaret art form. But no matter: it was so funny that the crowd cried tears of laughter. The Hoag ascht took place in the town of Trachtenheim, in the Austrian state of Tyrol.

Irschenberg

– The Traunsteiner Lindl Hoagascht in the Irschenberger Trachtenheim, organized by the very young harp duo Sunnaschein, can be described as downright epochal and definitely unforgettable. After three hours it was clear: folk music belongs to the youth.

None of the 250 spectators at the Hoagascht, which the two Lindl winners Magdalena Kandlinger (17) from Kreuth and Johanna Wierl (20) from Bad Aibling traditionally had to organize after the awarding of the “Traunsteiner Lindl” music prize, will ever be afraid for the future of real Alpine folk music. Not only the crème de la crème of folk music found themselves on stage with current and former Lindl winners as well as internationally known greats, but above all very young groups, all of whom indulged in the joy of playing with a touch of anarchic impetus - and all with sophisticated and excellent playing and singing.

Seven members of the Tegernseeer Tanzlmusi are almost seniors at the Lindl-Hoagascht

The seven members of the Tegernseer Tanzlmusi, who have been traveling around the world for 17 years and are known in the scene as YouTube stars, took over the in-and-out playing - and yet found themselves on stage that evening as the seniors.

Every piece of this Hoagascht was celebrated. Anyway, the winning piece “Im koitn Kammerl”, which Kandlinger and Wierl performed in perfect harmony with confident changes in motifs and tempos between the sweet and rhythmic passages and a broad, satisfied smile on their faces. The Strasser siblings from Riedering, whose youngest member Marinus is just ten years old on the double bass, also played and sang with sophistication and confidence. Also the Demmel family singing, which performed the most cheeky folk songs and yodels. The other Lindl winner Stefanie Erler from Tyrol, who had just turned 14, received a lot of applause for her fast and accurate pieces that transferred the throaty sound of the Tyrolean dialect to the harp. The “Violin music at the push of a button” shone with cozy and incredibly fast polkas and waltzes.

Moderator as a humorous highlight

But the crowning achievement was Andal Raab, who stepped in as an announcer for his first Hoagascht because of his radio experience. He questioned all the groups in a somewhat casual manner, commented on and parried their statements in such a witty and unabashed manner that the audience was not sure whether they were witnessing the birth of a new Valentine's-Pot-esque, bearish-anarchic-punk-like-rebellious-cabaret art form . Or whether Andal, who occasionally ordered a schnapps to calm the excitement, didn't get a little carried away. But no matter: it was so funny that the audience cried tears of laughter. When Sepp Kaiser and Gitti Edtmayer from the Traunsteiner Lindl working group presented the medals to the two winners, they and Erler thanked them with “a groovy harp song”: the Isartaler Landler in an epoch-making trio version, which once again earned them thunderous applause.
