They then bring the seeds from their plants back to the library so that there is enough available for the next gardening season. The seed library will open for the first time on Monday, April 15th. An event entitled “So that the garden hums and hums” is planned for children and families on April 26th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.M. The initiative came from the Community Foundation for the Fürstentheil District. It is the third seed library in the district after Puchheim and Gröbenzell. A maximum of five bags can be taken per household, explains Sabine Malta, who is taking care of this project at AumüHle. They can be packed in small bags. Or you can download a folding document from the website www.stadtbibliothek-fuerstenfeld bruck.de.

There is now a green corner in the city library in the Aumühle: you can now also take seeds there.

Fürstenfeldbruck

– books, CDs, DVDs, video games and more can be borrowed from the city library in the Aumühle. The offer will soon be expanded. Because the Aumühle becomes a seed library. The starting shot will be given this Monday.

In a seed library, hobby gardeners can pick up various seeds and sow them at home. They then bring the seeds from their plants back to the library so that there is enough available for the next gardening season. “Everyone can take part,” says Sabine Malta, who is taking care of this project at Aumühle. “We provide the seeds.” Agenda 21 donated around 50 seed bags for the start, and Malta, herself a passionate gardener, also contributed something. A call was also made via social media.

Important: “We want solid seeds, i.e. plants that are pollinated by insects and bees,” explains Sabine Malta. This way the next generation would have the same properties as the original plant. Purchased seeds are often hybrids. The result: color and properties can change. “We find native and old varieties better for the natural gardens in Fürstenfeldbruck,” says Malta.

A lot has come together to get started: seeds for tomatoes, peppers, other vegetables, salads and edible flowering plants are packed into the small bags and labeled. Around 600 bags are available.

The seed library will open for the first time on Monday, April 15th. The library team received an exhibition shelf from the Pestalozzi School, which contains the seed bags and also displays tips and literature on the topic. An event entitled “So that the garden hums and hums” is planned for children and families on April 26th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The seed library is self-service: a maximum of five bags can be taken per household, explains Sabine Malta. Because many people should be able to enjoy the plants.

“We would like to get seeds back in the fall so that they can be given out again in the spring.” They can be packed in small bags. Or you can download a folding document from the website www.stadtbibliothek-fuerstenfeldbruck.de. Even now, excess seeds can still be delivered to the Aumühle. The diversity should increase over the years.

The initiative came from the Community Foundation for the Fürstenfeldbruck District, which also finances the project. The community foundation already supported the seed library in Puchheim. When the inquiry came as to whether they wanted to do the same in Bruck, director Diana Rupprecht said yes. This makes the Aumühle the third seed library in the district after Puchheim and Gröbenzell. Sabine Malta reports that initial experiences from other libraries have been positive. “A lot of seeds came back.”

Further information on the topic can be found online on the website www.stadtbibliothek-fuerstenfeldbruck.de.
