Lots of interest, good conversations and satisfied exhibitors: the city of Penzberg draws a positive conclusion from its “torque”. The mobility days in the city center offered more than just cars.
Penzberg - Last weekend (April 13th/14th) in Penzberg was all about mobility: At “Trehmoment” many people strolled along the specially closed Bahnhofstrasse in summer temperatures. Once again, numerous car dealerships from the region brought in their latest models. Mobility on bicycles was also advertised again. However, there was something new on the town square this year. The culprit was the fact that, according to Rundschau information, the town hall had decided on the two-day event at relatively short notice given that there was still no budget.
Penzberger “Torque” on Saturday and Sunday: This was on offer in the city center - the city draws positive conclusions from its mobility days
Because of the "short lead time" for the car dealerships - a different company was previously allowed to present itself centrally with a large stand every year - the city's economic development officer Monique van Eijk decided on a new concept in Penzberg's city center: instead of cars, there were clubs, municipal utilities and bicycle dealers there and gastronomy have their place. What van Eijk described as a “nice concept” – especially for families.
Bicycle club promoted carless mobility
The local group of the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) also had its stand there. The Radlfreunde made a conscious presence together with the “ÜberMorgen” association and the Association for Nature Conservation. “So that they really are mobility days,” as local spokesman Norbert Hornauer said, referring to the “torque” motto. “We want to show that you can be mobile even with two wheels and without a motor.” And you can produce energy: the youngsters were allowed to drive the cars on a model racing track by pedaling.
Saturday weather was a bit too nice
The city had previously estimated around 6,000 visitors for the two days. On the Monday afterward, a satisfied business developer van Eijk (“it went really well”) couldn’t estimate how many there actually were in the wonderful weather. “There were a lot of people out and about,” she said. Although Saturday was behind Sunday in terms of visitor numbers. “The weather was a bit too nice,” said van Eijk.
Exhibitor “very satisfied”
She received positive reactions from the exhibitors. They were “very satisfied” and had “good discussions”. But whether the initial contacts really turn into business “will only become clear in a few weeks.”
Continuation desired
If the city gives “Tormoment” again in 2025, van Eijk would definitely like to consider using the city square again for carless participants. She is also thinking about more community activities. The economic development agency would definitely like to see a continuation of the mobility days. “This is good for Penzberg and the city center.”
