Next Tuesday,
San Lorenzo
will have to play against
Liverpool in Uruguay,
a key match for their aspirations of qualifying for the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores. El Ciclón has not yet won (one draw and one loss) in the international competition and needs to add as a visitor to avoid getting more complicated. For this reason, the leadership wants to have Ruben Darío
Insua
's replacement decided
for said crossing. However, the outlook darkens because the other name that had the greatest consensus was also discarded: Gabriel Heinze joined Luis Zubeldía and warned that his priority is not to direct in the Argentine league for the moment. And now?
Suddenly a name that was not on the front page begins to gain internal strength in Boedo. He is a person of the house. Of an idol.
Leandro Atilio Romagnoli
was the interim coach in the goalless draw against Central Córdoba that closed San Lorenzo's poor participation in the League Cup and then ran for the position.
"I have the illusion of directing San Lorenzo, I'm not going to lie. I'm comfortable in the Reserve, they let me work in peace, but I always think about directing the Primera. I know they are looking for a technician and I see the names on the networks
," he warned Pipi, current coach of the Reserve, who is supported on his coaching staff by Gonzalo Prósperi.
Does Romagnoli have a chance of becoming the first team coach? The answer, as
Clarín
learned
, is positive. The former multi-champion with the blue and red shirt is one of the few who remained in the race after ruling out the options of Zubeldía and Heinze. The Ciclón directors see him with the desire and authority to take charge, his public demonstration went down well and they do not rule out his continuity at all. And, as things stand, it is almost a fact that it will lead at least the commitment in Uruguay.
However, there is another name for which they expect a response between this Tuesday and Wednesday. This is
Nicolás Larcamón
, 39 years old, who was
recently fired by Ronaldo from Cruzeiro
after losing the state final against the classic rival, Gabriel Milito's Atlético Mineiro. He lasted just four months in office despite having been signed to a two-year contract.
According to Marcelo Moretti, the president of San Lorenzo has been following Larcamón's career since before sitting in the Barça chair. It would be quite a gamble since he never coached in Argentine soccer.
Larcamón began his career as head coach in Venezuela with Deportivo Anzoátegui (2016-2017) and made the leap to Chile, where he coached Antofagasta (2018), Huachipato (2018-2019) and Curicó Unidos (2020). He then went to Mexico and first commanded Puebla and León, a club in which he won the Concachampions last year.
Despite the dismissal, Larcamón's overall numbers in Cruzeiro were positive: he directed 14 games with seven wins, four draws and three losses.
Moretti and Néstor Ortigoza
, member and director in charge of San Lorenzo football,
met at the Ezeiza airport
with this man from La Plata who had to hang up his boots at the age of 22 due to osteochondritis. The leaders had to travel to Santiago del Estero for the game and they knew that Larcamón was leaving an hour apart for Belo Horizonte to look for his last belongings. They scheduled a meeting and had a coffee in the VIP.
Moretti and Ortigoza were seduced by his view of football, his style and his proposal to promote youth. They offered him the position, but the coach clarified that he needed a break, although he agreed to give them a definitive answer in the next few hours. If he accepts, Boedo would be willing to give him a few days to take over after facing Liverpool.
What if he says no? The Pipi Romagnoli alternative could become the definitive one since no name offered is completely convincing.
