Leutscher Reading Prize 2025: The categories in detail

“Outstanding individual commitment”:

In this category, sponsored by the PwC Foundation, individuals are honored who have committed themselves to promoting reading in a special way, be it through voluntary work or through their own ideas for promoting reading, which they have developed for different age groups. and target groups have been developed and implemented. “Outstanding community commitment”:

“Outstanding reading promotion in schools”:

This category honors school commitment to promoting the joy and competence of reading. The focus is on interdisciplinary projects in and outside of class, setting up our own reading rooms and working with parents and extracurricular actors. Prize money: 4,500 euros.

“Outstanding reading promotion with digital media”:

This category honors individuals, educational institutions and institutions that use digital media to give children, young people and adults (new) access to reading. Digital reading support offers can include apps and various reading devices (smartphone, tablet, computer) and can be used independently or with supervision. Prize money: 4,500 euros.

“Special prize for prominent commitment”:

The Commerzbank Foundation awards this special prize in the area of ​​reading promotion. The honor is given to a public figure whose fame shows the importance of reading for individuals and society. The prize money of 2,500 euros goes to a partner institution selected by the prize winner that stands out for its exemplary commitment to promoting reading. Applications in this category are not possible. The two initiators of the reading award make the selection together with experts.
