The German Reading Prize 2025 calls for applications: Projects that promote reading can now apply throughout Germany.
For the twelfth time, individuals, institutions, schools, daycare centers and digital pioneers have the opportunity to apply for the German Reading Prize 2025. This prize, which is endowed with a total of 25,000 euros, offers a prominent platform for outstanding commitment to promoting reading. Applications can be submitted in five categories until June 30, 2024.

The award is a joint initiative of the Reading Foundation and the Commerzbank Foundation. She receives support from patron and Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth as well as the other category partners Arnulf Betzold GmbH, Deutsche Fernsehenlotterie, Deutscher Städtetag, Fröbel eV and PwC-Stiftung, as the foundation writes in a current press release.

The official application phase for the German Reading Prize 2025 has begun. This most important national award for people and institutions that are actively committed to promoting reading can be accepted in a total of five categories at www.deutscher-lesepreis.de. In the sixth category, the “Special Prize for Prominent Commitment”, a public figure is honored whose fame shows the importance of reading for the individual and society. Leutscher Reading Prize 2025: The categories in detail
“Outstanding individual commitment”:
In this category, sponsored by the PwC Foundation, individuals are honored who have committed themselves to promoting reading in a special way, be it through voluntary work or through their own ideas for promoting reading, which they have developed for different age groups. and target groups have been developed and implemented. Prize money: 4,500 euros.
“Outstanding community commitment”:
This category honors organizations such as libraries, clubs, companies, universities and local authorities that are committed to promoting reading locally. Particular consideration will be given to projects that were designed and implemented in collaboration between different institutions. Prize money: 4,500 euros.
“Outstanding language and reading support in daycare centers”:
This category honors daycare centers that provide space for teaching the joy and interest of reading. This includes equipping the daycare centers with reading material and locations, the everyday use of stories, dialogic reading offers and the exchange between educational specialists and the children and their parents. Prize money: 4,500 euros.
“Outstanding reading promotion in schools”:
This category honors school commitment to promoting the joy and competence of reading. The focus is on interdisciplinary projects in and outside of class, setting up our own reading rooms and working with parents and extracurricular actors. Prize money: 4,500 euros.
“Outstanding reading promotion with digital media”:
This category honors individuals, educational institutions and institutions that use digital media to give children, young people and adults (new) access to reading. Digital reading support offers can include apps and various reading devices (smartphone, tablet, computer) and can be used independently or with supervision. Prize money: 4,500 euros.
“Special prize for prominent commitment”:
The Commerzbank Foundation awards this special prize in the area of reading promotion. The honor is given to a public figure whose fame shows the importance of reading for individuals and society. The prize money of 2,500 euros goes to a partner institution selected by the prize winner that stands out for its exemplary commitment to promoting reading. Applications in this category are not possible. The two initiators of the reading award make the selection together with experts.
