Part of a Point du jour school, the anger of parents was raised throughout the city. The transformation of evening after-school time proposed by the environmentalist executive and voted on in the municipal council on March 21 is the subject of broad opposition from families. Several petitions have been launched online, the main one of which has already collected 2,000 signatures, from 34,000 students attending school in Lyon. On the eve of the opening of registrations last week, a large group of parent representatives from around fifty schools wrote to the town hall to ask it to review its copy.
At the heart of their concerns, the removal of the division into two reception periods (4:45 p.m.-5:30 p.m. then 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.) in favor of
“a single large sequence”
effective from the start of the 2024 school year, as mentioned in the deliberation. In the municipal council, the education assistant, Stéphanie Léger pointed out
“overly rigid schedules”,
“a fragmented reception time that is difficult to invest”

Conversely, the “Peps” project for
“Extracurricular educational pathways”
, provides for a division into four stages. A snack break, welcome and letting off steam, then a quiet time for homework and relaxation, a time for entertainment and group games then a family time to allow parents to pick up their children staggered between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The parents asked for outing possibilities at 5:10 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m., in their letter of April 4.
“Some children have extracurricular activities, medical appointments, leaving at 6 p.m. is no longer possible
,” criticizes Arnaud Lachaud, representative of the parents of FCPE students at the Berthelot school.

“During the meetings that have since been held with the FCPE, we have the impression that they know better than the parents what is good for the children
,” continues Arnaud Lachaud.
Parents who nevertheless welcome the desire to upgrade extracurricular activities. Even though it is coupled with an increase in prices, of the order of

, which the majority firmly denies, evoking a drop in prices for the lowest family quotients. weaker. The environmental executive plans to strengthen extracurricular resources by the end of the mandate to
“professionalize”
and
“deprecarize”
the sector by increasing subsidies. With the creation of 77 permanent jobs for facilitators within the City of Lyon workforce and the increase in the working hours of these facilitators.
These developments are based on a study of a panel of 1000 people according to the majority. Consultations for which opposition elected officials and parents are demanding proof. Pointing to this more than mixed reception from parents, the former mayor and centrist opposition elected official George Képénékian requested a postponement of the vote. In vain.
