April shows its different face and the temperatures in Germany are slipping into the basement. But the climax of the weather change is still to come.
Munich – The weather situation has changed drastically. Last weekend, people in many parts of Germany enjoyed temperatures well over 20 degrees. They took advantage of the first signs of summer for ice cream, sunbathing and excursions. But just a few days later the weather changed completely. On Thursday the snowfall level dropped to just under 500 meters. The German Weather Service (DWD) warned of slippery conditions and frost in southern Germany. But the biggest cold shock is probably still to come.

. The altitude weather map shows temperatures of up to -35 degrees for Sunday - at an altitude of 5.5 kilometers. The expert continued to speak of an “Arctic cold whip” over Germany. The effects of this are sleet and sleet down to lower altitudes and “hard air frost” on Sunday and Monday. The latter is likely to particularly worry farmers and winegrowers who have to worry about their plants.

According to the DWD forecast, temperatures could drop to -4 degrees on Sunday. The weather service gives the maximum values between 6 and 12 degrees. Rain, sleet and isolated thunderstorms are expected in large parts of Germany for the rest of the weekend. The snowfall limit will drop to 400 meters on Saturday. “The next few days until the beginning of May will remain quite wet,” Jung also predicts.

The weather in April will probably remain cool - winter tires instead of grilling
Temperatures above 20 degrees, like last weekend, will probably not be found for the rest of April - but new cold records are also unlikely. The weather conditions in the coming days are “actually completely normal for this time of year,” explained meteorologist Jung. In comparison, the first half of April was significantly warmer than average.
While many people in Germany used the last weekend to grill on their terrace at home, residents of higher altitudes could now count themselves lucky if they didn't take off their winter tires by Easter. In Bavaria, the light snowfall on Thursday morning has already led to several accidents.
