59.4% of the population aged 14 and over declare themselves very or fairly satisfied with the economic situation in 2023 with a growth of 2.4 percentage points more than in 2022. This was revealed by Istat in a Report on citizens' satisfaction with living conditions . Between 20 and 24 years old the increase is much more significant, between 4 and 5 percentage points (reaching 60.8%) as for people between 65 and 74 years old for which it reaches 62.7%.
Economic satisfaction is maximum for managers, entrepreneurs and freelancers (72.4%), minimum for those looking for a new job (35.3%). Compared to 2022, the category of self-employed workers, as for job satisfaction, marks an important growth (+6.6 percentage points).
Regarding the personal economic situation in 2023, the gap between the North and the South is confirmed: the northern regions with 63.3% distance themselves from those of the South by almost 10 percentage points (53.4%). The Centre, with 60.8% of those satisfied, experienced the most significant growth compared to 2022, equal to 4.1 percentage points.
Judgments on economic perception expressed at family level also show signs of improvement. The share of families declaring their economic situation improved compared to the previous year increased slightly (10.4% compared to 9.2% in 2022). This growth corresponds to a decrease in the share of families expressing a deterioration compared to the previous year (33.9% compared to 35.1% in 2022). The majority of families with 55.7% remain, in any case, those who consider their economic situation unchanged.
