The Pope accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Florence, presented by Cardinal Giuseppe Betori upon reaching the age limit, and appointed Gherardo Gambelli, until now parish priest of the Florentine church Madonna della Tosse, as archbishop of the Tuscan capital. In Florence the announcement was made by Cardinal Giuseppe Betori, in the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore.
Originally from Castelfiorentino (Florence), 55 years old, Gambelli was a missionary in Chad for a long time and was also chaplain of the Sollicciano prison. Since last August he has been parish priest of the Madonna della Tosse in Florence. The ordination of the new bishop will take place on June 24th, as announced by Betori.
