Tine and Andy Malyssek ran their Malys shop on Traunstein's Bahnhofstrasse for two years. But now it's over, the two have decided to close their shop. What motivated her to do this?
Traunstein
– It wasn’t an easy decision for the two of them. After only two years, Tine and Andy Malyssek decided to close their shop in Traunstein. MalysLaden was more than just a shop for the two of them, it was a place for encounters, exchanges and joy. “Every customer who walked through our door became part of a story we all wrote together,” reflect Tine and Andy. “It’s not easy to say goodbye, but we look back on the past few years with gratitude.”
Online trading is having an impact
After two unsuccessful attempts at different locations in the city center, Malyssek says that Traunstein is unfortunately not a good place for her. “In Traunstein we have a wonderful community, but like many other cities, we are feeling the effects of online trading and changing consumer behavior.” The retail landscape is changing. “Customers are looking for more convenience and affordable deals, which are often found online. These trends made things more difficult for us and were a deciding factor in our decision to close the store.”
DIY trend
In addition, many people want to design things themselves, the so-called DIY trend (do-it-yourself). Tine and Andy Malyssek respect this wish. However, this also led to a decline in demand for their products, writes

. “'I can do that myself' - a sentence that came to us often and made us proud and sad at the same time,” says Andy Malyssek. “On the one hand, we are proud that our customers have been inspired by us to become creative themselves. On the other hand, it also meant that fewer people had to rely on our hand-picked and handmade products.” In addition, the high operating costs and the search for business partners who shared their vision were constant challenges.
Experiences are shared
The experiences the two have had with their shop should also benefit others. For ten years now, Andy Malyssek has been running an advertising agency that specializes in supporting people who want to turn their hobby into a business. “The agency offers a comprehensive package of services, from startup funding to web and graphic design, to help founders successfully realize their ideas and establish them on the market,” says Malyssek. In this way, the knowledge collected can be passed on to other small companies.
No plans for a new store
“At the moment we are concentrating on the clearance sale and on showing gratitude to our loyal customers and MalysLaden fans,” says Andreas Malyssek to the Chiemgau-Zeitung. The two have not yet made any concrete plans for the future, but they are open to new opportunities and challenges. “Although we have no current plans to open a similar store, we are not ruling out the possibility in the future. But now it's over. We are and have always been open to new business ideas and challenges.”
The clearance sale in MalysLaden has been running since Tuesday, April 16th and is expected to last until June 16th, 2024.
