It is an annual event which aims to be a
“true showcase of the nautical industry”
in Arcachon. From April 19 to 21, the Gironde commune is hosting the 9th edition of its boat show, with 65,000 visitors and 180 exhibitors expected, and no less than 460 boats afloat and on land. Entrance to the show is free but there is a charge for the many activities and entertainment. Two exceptional sailboats, the
French
and the
Phoenix
, are in particular in the spotlight.
“This show is the ideal opportunity to celebrate our local shipyards, the artisanal know-how and the creativity that characterize our region
,” explains Yves Foulon, mayor (Les Républicains) of Arcachon, in the presentation file for this event. . This gathering, which marks the start of the summer season,
“contributes to promoting our maritime heritage and aspires to become an essential reference on a national scale”
.
Surfing, diving and helicopter hoisting
Among the activities offered this weekend: learning to paddle, introduction to surfing or wake or even baptism of diving and discovery of the
“Sphèravague”
, which allows you to protect yourself from bad weather while observing the seabed. An auction will also be held for the benefit of sea rescuers and a helicopter hoisting demonstration will take place.
The port of Arcachon, in addition to being a real place of life for the inhabitants of the town, is the second largest marina on the Atlantic coast, with 2,600 moorings, 605 moorings and 110 berths in dry port. It is the only deep water port in the basin and the only European marina to have obtained triple QSE certification (quality, safety, environment).
Each year, 1,300 tonnes of fish are received by the fishing port, ranked 3rd in its category by the average price of its fishing (31st in terms of tonnage). The nautical sector, highlighted each year at this boat show, represents a major economic sector in the basin, with 58 million euros in turnover in 2015.
