A shortage of skilled workers and skyrocketing construction costs are making themselves felt in Oberhaching

2024-04-19T19:39:57.157Z

Highlights: Around 150 people from Oberhaching came to this year's citizens' meeting in the Forstner Citizens' Hall to find out about current developments in the community. Probably the largest project currently underway is the school campus with secondary school and FOS, which is being built on the site directly next to the Deisenhofen S-Bahn station. The mayor then addressed the issue of wind energy and explained that the regional planning association is driving the complex issue forward. He had further applications on a wide variety of topics, such as the laying of the fiber optic network, which in his opinion is not progressing quickly enough, or the rezoning of municipal areas to building land. The town hall boss said that the applications would be dealt with in the municipal committees.. The goal is to bundle wind power and promote it at suitable, good locations, said Schelle. The first step was to identify search areas and then develop a control concept. "This will be presented at the local council meeting on May 5th," said the mayor.

Around 150 people from Oberhaching came to this year's citizens' meeting in the Forstner Citizens' Hall to find out about current developments in the community.

Oberhaching

– Probably the largest project currently underway is the school campus with secondary school and FOS, which is being built on the site directly next to the Deisenhofen S-Bahn station. As Mayor Stefan Schelle (CSU) reported, the gravel excavation will be completed in the next few weeks so that the special foundation engineering work can now begin. A permanent asphalted construction site access with a tire washing system will also be built. Work on the shell is scheduled to begin in September, with timber construction work starting in October next year and continuing until fall 2026. The interior work will then begin so that the secondary school will be ready for occupancy in spring 2027. “You can watch the daily construction progress on our webcam at www.campus-deisenhofen.de, which is really very interesting,” said Schelle.

Criticism of the project

In addition, a bus hub will be built directly at the S-Bahn stop for buses X203 and X320 as well as bus 224. “Some of the P&R spaces will disappear,” explained the town hall boss. Anton Sewald criticized the school campus as an “urban planning failure” and requested that the municipality take another look at the report on the resulting traffic. He had further applications on a wide variety of topics such as the laying of the fiber optic network, which in his opinion is not progressing quickly enough, or the rezoning of municipal areas to building land. Schelle said that the applications will be dealt with in the municipal committees.

Wind power

The mayor then addressed the issue of wind energy and explained that the regional planning association is driving the complex issue forward. The first step was to identify search areas and then develop a control concept. “This will be presented at the local council meeting on May 5th.” Finally, two hearings will follow, which will result in a determination of sub-area targets at the beginning of 2026. “The goal is to bundle wind power and promote it at suitable, good locations,” said Schelle.

housing

Affordable housing was another key issue. As Schelle explained, there are currently hardly any building applications due to the skyrocketing construction and energy prices. In a bidding process, the municipality was able to sell land, the proceeds of which would be used to build municipal rental apartments. But buyers have now withdrawn because the construction costs were too high. Nevertheless, the municipality is pushing ahead with municipal rental housing construction: four houses with 40 apartments and a day care center with around 18 places are being built on Grünwalder Weg.

childcare

Around 1,000 children attend the various daycare centers in Oberhaching every day, but the shortage of skilled workers is clearly noticeable. There is currently a shortage of 15 educators and four additional staff. “There are currently 68 crèche children on the waiting list,” said the mayor. When asked by a citizen whether the food in the daycare centers would be switched to regional or organic food, Schelle said that the municipality's idea is that the parents in each daycare center decide which provider they want and finance them accordingly. The legal options are now being examined. The catering is tied to procurement law, which may require a Europe-wide tender.

Oberbiberg chapels

Three listed chapels in Oberbiberg are in poor condition and, in the opinion of 89-year-old Oberbiberg resident Konrad Kleiber, should be renovated. For him, the chapels represent a centuries-old cultural tradition. He is even prepared to pay up to 20,000 euros for them. But the chapels are privately owned. Kleiber is now “on the right track” with two owners, but there has been little reaction from the third owner. The Oberbiberger would like to move the project forward together with the community and citizens. Mayor Stefan Schelle was pleased about the great commitment, which, in his words, is particularly fitting for the community's 1275th anniversary.
