There are discussions about the different parking fees at Walchensee. They cause irritation among guests and locals alike.
Walchensee – Parking fees are a hot topic in Walchensee. This became clear at the annual meeting of the tourist association in the Gasthof Edeltraut. One of the listeners complained: “We have to pay parking fees in Walchensee, we have to pay parking fees in Jachenau, we have to pay parking fees in Vorderriß – we locals are always just asked to pay.”
Different parking fees along Lake Walchensee cause confusion among guests
Chairman Klaus Melf campaigned for the same parking fees to apply at least in the neighboring communities of Jachenau and Walchensee. He also demanded that communities recognize each other's parking tickets. It is entirely possible that a guest first bathes in Walchensee, but then moves to the south bank because the wind is blowing too hard. In this case, the guest would have to pay a parking fee of seven euros in Walchensee and then another five euros in Jachenau. There is also a six euro toll for using the road on the south bank. Melf thinks this is difficult to convey to a guest: “The guest doesn’t know where one community begins and the other ends.”
The Kochlers say that the Jachenauers are stubborn, you can't talk to them. And the Jachenauers say the same about the Kochlers.

Melf hopes that the representatives of both communities will sit down at the table to find a solution: “It’s about ensuring that the parking tickets are mutually recognized.” He has found that this is not that easy: “The Kochlers say, that the Jachenauers are stubborn, you can't talk to them. And the Jachenauers say the same about the Kochlers.”

Mayor Jens Müller is first keeping an eye on the Schlehdorfers. They contacted him with a request that they be allowed to purchase the Kochler annual parking ticket for 35 euros. The head of the town hall considers this wish to be understandable, “because Schlehdorf is also a community bordering Lake Kochelsee”. Now we have to see what is legally possible: “Our parking space concept is an incredibly complicated construct.”

It's not about making a profit, but about directing traffic. The parking fees collected - around 500,000 euros per year - should only be used to create parking spaces and purchase equipment: "If we don't make a profit, we don't have to pay sales tax." Müller would like to solve these legal problems, " "It's not my intention to say anything bad."
Klaus Melf recalled the ideas behind the parking space concept: “The locals and guests should leave their cars at home because all the parking spaces are full anyway - you can understand that.” Many people also have a bike at home and can do so you can easily reach the Zwergern peninsula from Walchensee. But you have to think about those over 80, objected one listener. Another noted that at most a quarter of the guests had bikes with them.
