G7: ready for new sanctions against Iran, no to Israel's operation in Rafah

Highlights: The G7 issued a clear message for de-escalation in the Middle East. "We call on all parties to work to prevent further escalation," the communiqué said. The G7 will continue to support Ukraine's right to self-defense and reaffirm its commitment to Ukraine's long-term security, it added. The Seven then state that "if Iran were to proceed with the supply of ballistic missiles or related technologies to Russia, we are ready to respond in a rapid and coordinated manner, including with new and significant measures. "We will hold the Iranian government accountable for its harmful and destabilizing actions and stand ready to take additional sanctions or other measures, now and in response to further destabilizing initiatives," they said in the final communique of the Capri summit, which took place on April 19-20.


Tajani, clear message for de-escalation in the Middle East (ANSA)


 "In light of the reports of the raids on 19 April, we call on all parties to work to prevent further escalation. The G7 will continue to work to this end.


We call on all parties, both in the region and beyond, to offer their contribution to this effort." We read it in the final communiqué of the Capri summit. “We call on Iran to refrain from supporting Hamas and taking further actions that destabilize the Middle East, including support for Hezbollah and other non-state actors. We call on all countries to prevent the supply of components for programs related to Iranian drones and missiles". 

 "We demand that Iran and its affiliated groups cease their attacks. We will hold the Iranian government accountable for its harmful and destabilizing actions and stand ready to take additional sanctions or other measures, now and in response to further destabilizing initiatives."  “We support Ukraine in obtaining compensation for losses, injuries and damages resulting from Russia's aggression.” “Russia's sovereign assets in our jurisdictions will remain immobilized until it ceases its aggression and pays for the damages caused. We welcome the adoption by the EU of legal acts addressing extraordinary revenues held by private entities arising directly from the activities Russia's immobilized sovereign assets, including with a view to exploring ways to maximize the benefit for Ukraine. We will continue our work ahead of the summit in Puglia on possible viable options through which Russian immobilized sovereign assets could be used to support Ukraine. in line with our respective legal systems and international law." 

Tajani, clear G7 message to de-escalation Middle East

 "This morning we decided to address the Iran issue immediately. I wanted there to be a clear message from the G7. The political objective is called escalation. We work and will continue to work to be active protagonists throughout the Middle East" for de-escalation . Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said this in a press conference at the end of the G7 in Capri.


"We ask all parties to make a positive contribution.


We condemned the recent attack launched by Iran and the G7 supports Israel's security, but we invite all parties to work to avoid an escalation and the G7 will work towards this result." "I believe that these three days of work were a success because we recorded a great unity of intent and convergence on the most important international issues, from the Middle East to the Red Sea to the situation in Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific". Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said this in a press conference at the end of the G7 Foreign Affairs meeting in Capri. "We have also decided to ensure that our collaboration is permanent and there is constant contact day after day between ministries for an exchange of information and increasingly common choices on major international issues, including disinformation."
