These are the Max subscription options when it stops being HBO in May, with the Paris Olympics included in all of them

Warner's new on-demand content platform maintains, with conditions, its 50% offer for life and launches a premium plan in addition to a special sports add-on

This May 21, HBO Max will be renamed Max, absorbing the Discovery+ catalog. With this change announced in 2023, new subscription options will also arrive. The cheapest does not change, including, with conditions, the launch offer that was launched when HBO Max arrived in Spain in 2021. The basic package is expanded with two other options: The premium, more expensive and allows access to the catalog from more devices , and the special sports supplement. As part of the launch, but on a specific basis, this new platform will include live and on-demand coverage of the Paris Olympic Games in all its subscription models.

As the company explains this Friday in a statement, “Max unites HBO Max, Discovery+ and Eurosport in a new application and will offer new features, unpublished stories and more worlds of entertainment from Warner Bros., the DC universe, HBO Originals, Max Originals, Eurosport, Discovery, TLC, Cartoon Network, with more than double the content available” on the current platform. In just over seven years the platform, which landed in Spain as HBO Spain, has already had three names.

In the standard plan, for 9.99 euros per month, users will be able to enjoy

content on two devices simultaneously. The content will be available in Full HD resolution. This plan will allow up to 30 downloads of content available for offline viewing.

As the company explains to this newspaper, users who signed up for the initial HBO Max offer in 2021 with a 50% discount for life will keep it, as long as they do not change their subscription plan. This discount, they clarify, does not maintain a fixed price, but rather a fixed discount: half the cost of the basic subscription. If the basic rate increases in the future, the price of this offer will increase to just half.

The plan known as premium will cost 13.99 euros. Provides a better consumer experience. Users can watch content on up to four devices simultaneously and will do so with Full HD or 4K resolution and with Dolby Atmos sound (depending on availability). This plan will allow up to 100 downloads of content available for offline viewing.

Apart from the coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which will be included in all subscription packages, there will be the possibility of a sports add-on with Eurosport, for an extra five euros per month. This option offers coverage of sporting events such as the tennis Grand Slam, cycling races, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the live linear channels Eurosport 1 and 2, among others. Users will be able to watch sports content on two devices simultaneously (limited to two of their broadcasts available in the base plan). For now, advertising will be limited to these live broadcasts, but in the future the platform contemplates, as in the US and as the competition is doing, a package with advertising, but without specifying a date or price.

Starting May 21, when you open the HBO Max app, you will be prompted to download the Max app. If you view content through hbomax.com, you will be redirected to max.com automatically. Billing and login details for Max will be the same as for HBO Max. Profiles, viewing history and My List will be transferred to Max and continue as each user left them.
