Highlights: A few hundred students experienced a completely different school day on Thursday morning. During the training tour, they were able to take a look at training companies in the district and learn a lot. In addition to road builders, these include pipeline builders, processing mechanics, process mechanics, mechatronics engineers, and office management clerks. Many of the professions are "very much in demand," explains Christoph Willibald of the Kilian WillibALD company in Schlegldorf. The boys are particularly interested in the large machines. When it comes to visiting the individual areas of the company, most of the boys want to go to the gravel factory, while a smaller number want to go to the concrete factory. There are currently no interested parties for the remaining departments. The students are convinced. Yes, they could imagine being a process mechanic, they say after the tour. Thomas would like to do an internship during the Pentecost holidays. Leonhard is interested in driving trucks, as he says with a laugh. They enthusiastically pester operations manager Mathias Zacherl.

A few hundred students experienced a completely different school day on Thursday morning. During the training tour they were able to take a look at training companies in the district and learn a lot.

Schlegldorf – 15 young boys arrive in Schlegldorf at 9 a.m. sharp. They come from different schools, are a year away from graduating and have decided on Tour 47. This initially leads her to the Kilian Willibald company. Christoph Willibald explains the various professions that you can learn there: In addition to road builders, these include pipeline builders, processing mechanics, process mechanics, mechatronics engineers and office management clerks. Many of the professions are “very much in demand,” explains Willibald. You have very good opportunities for advancement. “As a road builder you are always outside. “This has the advantage that you are never sick,” he says. A student wants to know whether all you have to do as a process mechanic is drive trucks. Willibald says no, there are a lot of tasks behind it, including scheduling.

“Concrete is a sheared building material that simply becomes hard”

As it soon turns out, the students are particularly interested in the large machines: When it comes to visiting the individual areas of the company, most of the boys want to go to the gravel factory, while a smaller number want to go to the concrete factory. There are currently no interested parties for the remaining departments. Leonhard, Anian and Thomas (all 14) have already worked on the concrete plant. They enthusiastically pester operations manager Mathias Zacherl with questions and learn, for example, that concrete has to be processed within 90 minutes - “Concrete is a sheared building material, it simply becomes hard,” says Zacherl. They are also allowed to take a look into the mixing plant and see in the headquarters where the individual vehicles located using GPS are currently located. “This is important so that we can make optimal use of our vehicles,” says the concrete plant manager.

The three boys are convinced. Yes, they could imagine being a process mechanic, they say after the tour. Thomas would like to do an internship during the Pentecost holidays. Leonhard is interested in driving trucks, as he says with a laugh.

From boathouses to mountain huts, the repertoire is incredibly broad

Shortly afterwards, the 15 students learn about completely different material. Bernhard Simon from Simon Haus- und Holzbau explains the “beautiful building material” wood and what you have to consider, for example, when training as a carpenter. The most important thing, according to Simon, is a “clean appearance of the company”. The apprentices would learn that. This includes how we treat each other and with customers, as well as our visual appearance and, of course, our way of working. The carpenters' work is very varied: the repertoire is incredibly broad, from boat sheds to mountain huts.

“It’s good that the training tour exists,” says Simon afterwards in an interview with the Tölzer Kurier. “This gives young people a chance to get a taste of professional life.” He knows that companies have to do a lot to inspire trainees. For Simon, this is paying off: “We have filled our training positions for September.” Nevertheless, anyone interested can get in touch at any time, he emphasizes.

Hannes (15) finds it “interesting” to see “what the companies are doing”. He also thinks it's a good concept that you can get a taste of two companies at the same time. And was there something for him? “No, I want to pursue a career in sports or physiotherapy.”

53 tours to a wide variety of companies in the district

On the training tour, which took place for the third time this year, the students had a total of 53 tours to choose from to a wide variety of companies throughout the district. A maximum of 15 people could take part at a time. The campaign is organized by the district together with various other participants. “We have a varied offer for the students,” says district economic development officer Andreas Ross. The training tour is a building block on the way to finding a career. Trade fairs and other events such as job speed dating are also important. An open-air job fair is also planned. “This is a different format. We always try to meet people in different ways.” The training tour is not only interesting for the students but also for the accompanying teachers in order to gain insights. The participating companies are always very satisfied, says Ross. “They always enjoy being there.”
