Düsseldorf – For viewers, Judith Rakers (48) was an integral part of the German news program for years. The journalist moderated the “Tagesschau” for almost 20 years, alternating with her colleagues. But on January 17, 2024 it was over: the speaker ended her “Tagesschau” career and has since devoted herself to new projects. But a few months later she admits: Not everything went smoothly after the end.

Judith Rakers didn't like saying goodbye to the “Tagesschau” – because she was close to tears in her last broadcast. The 48-year-old had already announced back then that she wanted to focus primarily on projects outside of television. Among other things, she works as an author and supplies herself with vegetables from her own garden. “My first children's book and an experimental kit for growing vegetables will soon be published. But now – around three months after her last appearance on the “Tagesschau” – she makes it clear that she was not only able to celebrate successes. At the WoMen On Top event in Düsseldorf, she emphasized to
RTL
: “There were setbacks, not everything always worked out.” But she has learned to deal with them and make the best of them: “Now I have a self-sufficient garden with over 70 to 80 types of vegetables and fruit, a great online shop, a magazine, the books all work very well.”
A successful new beginning: Judith Rakers raves about her new life
The journalist does not regret her decision. “The new beginning totally worked for me in terms of happiness in life and also my professional home,” she enthuses. The news anchor's appearance has also changed over time. In the interview she explains: “I had the same hairstyle for many years, it was a bit like the image people knew of me, and it's different now. And 'different' is always a bit difficult.”
But people would definitely get used to it, she says. Why she quit her job at the news probably also has to do with the difficult working conditions. Judith Rakers revealed how hard shift work at the “Tagesschau” was for her.
