A vacation at a luxury resort in Egypt ends in fiasco for a family. She makes serious allegations and takes legal action.

Cairo – Egypt, with its azure waters, endless beaches and rich culture, is a popular travel destination worldwide. Numerous luxury resorts entice you with the promise of an unforgettable vacation. But what happens if the longed-for dream vacation ends in a fiasco?

Family experiences severe disappointment on vacation in Egypt: “Now we are suing”

This is exactly what a family from Lower Austria had to experience, who are now making numerous allegations against a 5-star hotel and are even taking legal action. “Now we are suing,” explains father Robert (name changed) on

meine.at

. His criticism of the resort is devastating because, according to him, there was hardly anything on site that you would expect in a luxury resort.

“The facility was supposed to have seven pools with different activities, but only two were filled. There was no German-speaking childcare either. And the entire facility was inadequate.” One child in the family is said to have even injured his foot on a defective pool tile.

But the “nightmare trip” didn’t end there. “The room was also a disaster,” complains Robert, “the air conditioning was broken and leaked heavily. And we had problems with the room card and had to wait in front of the room for several hours until a hotel employee could open the door for us." At least the food doesn't seem to have caused any problems, in contrast to the travel experiences of an influencer in Egypt.

Over 4,000 euros for a ten-day “nightmare trip”: Family hires lawyer after hotel vacation

The family paid 4,370 euros for ten days in the hotel - at a time when many families have to make compromises on their vacation. They didn't want to accept it and complained on site. As compensation, they received a fruit basket and a bracelet for another hotel from the tour operator in Egypt. After returning home, Robert immediately lodged a written complaint, whereupon the organizer offered a “succinct amount of money”. From the Austrians' point of view, that wasn't enough, which is why they hired a lawyer.

Repayment after a defective trip: This is how high compensation can be

What are the prospects of compensation and how much could the repayment be? At first glance, the family seems to have done everything right. In case of complaints, the ADAC recommends:

  • Report any defects to the tour guide on site.

  • Preserve evidence.

  • Claim a price reduction from the organizer after the trip.

The amount of the refund depends on the individual case. The ADAC gives the following guidelines:

Lack in the hotel

Price reduction

Dirt in the hotel or hotel room

3 to 60% of the travel price per affected holiday day

Missing balcony/terrace/view

5 to 75% of the travel price

Bugs in the hotel

5 to 100% of the travel price

Swimming pool is missing or dirty

Up to 25% of the travel price

Missing and limited sports facilities/ entertainment/ disco

Up to 15% of the travel price

construction noise

Up to 60% of the travel price

According to

meine.at

, the family's lawyer expects a good chance of a noticeable refund. And he could be right, for example a German family received their money back because all the loungers at the pool were reserved. One thing is already certain for the father of the family: “This is not how we imagined our vacation would be.”
