From the sledding hill to the youth center: the municipality of Peiting wants to tackle these construction projects

Sleigh hill, town hall kindergarten conversion and new youth center building: three larger municipal building projects are casting their shadows in Peiting. At the most recent meeting, market builder Christian Hack informed the local council about the status of the planning.

Peiting – The renovation of the Peiting ice rink is currently the largest construction project in the community of Peiting. At the same time, plans for three further projects in the building authority are entering the home stretch.

Sledding hill:

When the old sledding hill fell victim to the new open all-day school building at the Alfons Peter Elementary School, which was completed in 2021, the community promised an adequate replacement. As is well known, this will be built not far away on the property next to the new Sonnenschein kindergarten, which was most recently used as a storage area for excavated material. This now has to be removed in order to model the new attraction, as Hack explained. The new toboggan hill will be 50 by 54 meters in size and six meters high. The steeper sloping terrain on the street side should be landscaped. This and a fence are intended to prevent children from sledding towards the street. On the slope side, a gradient of between 13 and 35 percent is planned for sledding. They also want to add a small hump “to make it more interesting,” says Hack.

Christian Lory (Independent) thought the intended height was low. The market builder explained that it was the same as the old sleigh hill. He was also able to reassure Tobias Eding (SPD), who wanted to know whether there was enough space on the meadow to play football. “The warm-up area will be retained.” Alfred Jocher (independent) brought up the idea of creating a small area of water on which people could ice skate in winter. However, Hack was skeptical about the space required. “We should focus on one use.”

The council had to take a deep breath when Hack came to the cost of 70,000 euros. Andreas Barnsteiner (BVP) asked in disbelief at the amount of money whether lines had already been planned for the snow cannons. But no one wanted to question the plan. In order to save money, excavation from municipal civil engineering projects will be used, which of course has an impact on the schedule. It is still unclear whether enough material can be obtained by next winter.

Town Hall Kindergarten:

The conversion of the currently empty town hall kindergarten into an administration building is also scheduled to begin this year. In the future it will be used by the treasury to alleviate the lack of space in the town hall. According to Hack, the group room on the ground floor will be converted into two offices; there will be space for the tax office and cash register with a counter. A room is also planned for the Peitingmobil employees. Because this is where public traffic takes place, there is no expensive elevator. On the first floor there will be offices for the treasurer and deputy as well as the accounting department. There is a meeting room and a lounge for staff under the roof. The barrier-free access has a glass roof. It is the only major visual change apart from a double garage that is to be built in the southeast of the property.

This sparked a lengthy discussion in particular. Thomas Elste (Greens) criticized the fact that a huge area was being sealed for two parking spaces. Jocher also couldn't get used to the garage at that location. “The town center is our flagship.” Hack pointed out that as a community we also have to comply with the parking space regulations. However, he rejected Josef Sellmaier's (BVP) suggestion to use the area as an employee parking lot. This is too dangerous because of the pedestrians. However, the proposal from Franz Seidel (BVP) to build a carport instead of a garage, which could be brought forward because it does not block the windows, should be examined. Hack estimated the cost of the renovation, which also required replacing the entire electrical installation, at around one million euros.

Youth Center:

The community has to dig even deeper into its pockets for the new youth center - a project that has been waiting to be implemented for years. The demolition of the existing building and the new building, for which Hack was able to present an initial preliminary draft, is expected to cost 2.85 million euros. A one-story building with a basement and an L-shaped gable roof is planned. There is space for wood chip heating and rehearsal rooms in the basement. After the entrance, the barrier-free ground floor has a 70 square meter main room that is open to the top and includes a small stage for events and concerts. There is also a counter area, toilets, a kitchen with a common room and two other rooms that can be used in a variety of ways. There is a separate office for the facility management.

The highlight: some of the rooms should also be accessible to external youth groups. “We want clubs that have a youth event to be able to enter,” emphasized Mayor Peter Ostenrieder. This was well received by the local council. Norbert Merk (CSU) expressed concerns about the covered outdoor area. “Not that we will have a noise problem with the residents.” Alexander Zila (independent), who was involved in the planning, could understand the concern. However, the roof is important; fencing around the area could prevent the place from becoming a meeting place for young people outside of opening hours. The draft will now be finalized in the next few months so that the excavators can finally start rolling in 2025.
