Three times a year, the “An Inheritance for Everyone” foundation raffles off 20,000 euros to 30-year-olds in Germany. On Wednesday we rolled the dice in Frankfurt. The money went to Florian Meyer from the west of Frankfurt.

Frankfurt/Marktleugast/Koblenz – Florian Meyer from Frankfurt didn't have to do much for his big win: just register in advance and you're done. On Wednesday, the Frankfurt native won 20,000 euros from the “An Inheritance for Everyone” foundation. The foundation, based in Marktleugast, Upper Franconia, gives away a “basic inheritance” three times a year to 30-year-olds in various regions of Germany. The aim is to “equalize the economic start-up opportunities for young adults,” as foundation board member Christoph Prüm said. The 74-year-old believes that every society has a duty to ensure equal opportunities to a certain extent.

Foundation founder with the idea of unconditional “basic inheritance”

The Franconian from Meinheim persuaded a friend to contribute money to implement his idea of an unconditional “basic inheritance”. “I have been carrying this issue around with me my whole life,” the retired heating

engineer

told

bild.de.

Even as a teenager, Prüm noticed that his friends' chances in life were predetermined by their parents' wealth. “Now I’m old, my children are adults themselves and I have time to deal with the topic.”

Winners have been determined since 2022 - hope for new donors

The starting capital is enough for twelve winners. Prüm hopes that new donors will be found afterwards. First the areas are drawn. The winner is then determined from the applicants using dice. The first winner was determined in October 2022 in Koblenz, after which the dice were rolled in Gütersloh, Hamburg-Nord, Wuppertal, Aachen and Frankfurt. The next three locations or regions will be drawn in May.

Applicants must be no more than 30 years old and live in the selected region. You must be a German citizen and must not have inherited any large sums of money. A contract is then concluded in which the winner undertakes to adhere to “conditions of fairness”: if you later inherit something, you have to give up part of the foundation. To ensure that the winnings are not used for thoughtless things, the 20,000 euros must not be spent in the first three years.

Winner from Frankfurt would like to invest money in funds

In Frankfurt, Wednesday evening in the Saalbau Volkshaus Sossenheim did not end happily for everyone present. A woman whose ticket number was drawn was registered twice. Presumably because of a move, as

writes. In the spirit of fairness, another lot was drawn.

Florian Meyer will invest his 20,000 euros in funds. The 30-year-old revealed this

to

bild.de.

But he still has to read up on it, the sales employee continued.

Anyone who thinks that the foundation will be overrun by applicants is wrong: in Frankfurt only three 30-year-olds had applied by the beginning of 2024. The foundation then wanted to write to all eligible people, but according to Prüm it failed at the residents' registration office. After intervention by scientists supporting the project, the addresses of at least a third were obtained. Of these 340 people, only 50 registered. (nok/dpa)
