The German Formula 1 racer Nico Hulkenberg has to look for a new employer. He loses his cockpit in the coming year at Renault to the Frenchman Esteban Ocon.
As the French factory team announced on the sidelines of the Belgian Grand Prix, the 22-year-old Ocon will have a multi-year contract and will ride alongside Australian Daniel Ricciardo from 2020 onwards. The contract of the 32-year-old Hülkenberg expires at the end of the season and will not be extended. He drives for Renault since 2017, since 2010 in Formula 1.
"It's a shame that the trip with Renault ends after the season, especially because we have not yet reached our goals," tweeted Hülkenberg, who with 17 points only WM-14. is. He did not want to speak concretely about his future: "I am confident that I will find a good solution, but there is nothing yet to announce."
Even after the retirement at Renault Hülkenberg could remain active next year in the premier class of motorsport. Team boss Günter Steiner from the US team Haas confirmed in the paddock of Spa Francorchamps already interested in a commitment of the German. The Americans are running out of Frenchman Romain Grosjean's contract.
