Succession of Rummenigge: Kahn becomes board member of FC Bayern

Oliver Kahn returns to FC Bayern: From January 2020, he will be on the board of the club, 2022 he will take over the chairmanship of Karl -Heinz Rummenigge.



The former captain and goalkeeper Oliver Kahn is appointed to the board of FC Bayern Munich. This was announced by the German football champion.

Accordingly, Kahn signed a five-year contract, which is due to enter into force on January 1, 2020. First, he acts as a member of the board. After expiration of the contract of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on 31 December 2021 Kahn takes over from him the office of the chairman of the board.

"We are convinced that in Oliver Kahn we have in the foreseeable future found the perfect solution for the position of CEO of FC Bayern München AG Oliver was a significant player in the history of our club," said supervisory board chairman Uli Hoeneß.

The night before, the Hoeneß had announced its withdrawal from the top management of the club. His offices are to be taken over by the long-time Adidas boss Herbert Hainer.

Kahn is the desired solution from Hoeneß. "For years he was captain of FC Bayern and the German national team, he has won almost all the titles there is to win and he has always been there with commitment and will," said Hoeneß. "After his active career, he earned an MBA in General Management and set up his own business in parallel, Oliver Kahn knows football, he knows the economy and he carries the DNA of FC Bayern in himself."

Kahn himself spoke of a "great honor". He was "deeply connected with the club, he has shaped my life very strongly".

The obligation of Kahn had become apparent: In April Rummenigge had confirmed that Kahn should be his successor.

The former world class goalkeeper played from 1994 to 2008 for FC Bayern Munich, celebrated eight league titles, six cup wins and triumphed as a highlight in 2001 in the Champions League.
