World champion Alejandro Valverde won the seventh stage of the Tour of Spain, while Colombian Miguel Angel Lopez regained the red shirt of the overall leader after finishing third.
According to Reuters, Valverde, 39, overtook the last five heights in the distance from Onda to Mas de la Costa and managed to rein in the Colombian duo of Nero Quintana and Lopez before narrowly beating Slovenian Primo Rogelic at the finish line.
Rogelic's strong performance earned him second place in the overall standings, six seconds behind Lopez, while Valverde finished third, 16 seconds behind, thanks to an additional 10 seconds after winning the day.
