"I sometimes got the impression that I'm on vacation": Costa Rica's football coach Gustavo Matosas has given up his job. He was too bored. Now he is club coach again.

Costa Rica's football coach Gustavo Matosas has announced his departure before the international match against two-time world champion Uruguay. His surprise statement: "I was bored and did not feel productive, and sometimes I got the impression that I was on vacation," the Uruguayan told a news conference.

Matosas takes over after the duel with his homeland, the Mexican club Atlético de San Luis Potosi instead. The Costa Rican Association confirmed the farewell of the coach, who had been active since October 2018 in the Central American country. "He has made use of his exit clause and is taking a great professional opportunity," said Federation President Rodolfo Villalobos.

The balance of the 52-year-old coach with Costa Rica was manageable. He only won three out of eight internationals with the Ticos. In the Gold Cup this summer Costa Rica surprisingly lost to Haiti in the group stage and lost in the quarterfinals against the eventual winner Mexico on penalties.
