After the unfortunate circumstances of his appointment as Spanish coach, Robert Moreno won his first match in Romania. Although not convincing.

Robert Moreno has started with success as head coach of the Spanish national team, but not without problems. Against Romania, the Spaniards won in Bucharest in the end happy 2: 1 (1: 0).

After Spain's center-back Diego Llorente saw a red card (79th minute) in the closing stages due to an emergency brake, Romania became more dangerous. And just before the end of the opportunity to equalize: After a cross from the right Ianis Hagi first failed header to goalkeeper Kepa, before the freestanding Dragos Grigore shot the ball over the goal (90. + 2).

Romania's Florin Andone was previously only able to shorten (59.). Sergio Ramos with a penalty (29.) and Dortmund's Paco Alcácer had brought Spain into the lead. (47th minute). For Alcácer, it was the first international match in almost a year.

In June Moreno officially succeeded his longtime boss Luis Enrique, who had resigned because of the cancer of his small daughter Xana. The nine-year-old died at the end of August. Already in the first half Moreno had stepped in for Enrique and had won three wins in the European Championship qualification.
