LONDON (Reuters) - Australian Ashley Barty regained the top of the world rankings after less than a month of losing the top spot, while US Open champion Bianca Andresco moved up to fifth after her first grand slam title.
Andresco beat Serena Williams 6-3, 7-5 in Saturday's final to continue a series of 13 unbeaten wins, also winning the Rogers Cup in Toronto to appear in the top 10 for the first time in her career.
Japan's Osaka, who beat Serena in last year's final, dropped to fourth, while Czech Karolina Pleskova and Elena Svetolina of Ukraine rose to second and third respectively.
Wimbledon champion Simona Halep dropped two steps to sixth and Serena also slipped to ninth despite reaching the final for the second year in a row.
In the professional rankings, there was no change in the top three with Novak Djokovic staying on top, followed by Rafael Nadal, who won his 19th grand slam title on Sunday, and Roger Federer, while runner-up Daniel Medvedev moved up to fourth in the best position of his career.
