2019-09-10T08:55:27.782Z

The Sri Lankan Cricket Association had released its players' participation in games in Pakistan, and ten professionals led by Captain Dimuth Karunaratne canceled. Reason is an attack on the team bus Sri Lanka 2009.

Ten Sri Lankan cricket team players will not participate in their team's testing matches in Pakistan. The group around Captain Dimuth Karunaratne justified the decision with safety concerns. The association had informed the players in advance about the security situation and released them whether they want to travel to the games.

In 2009, during a visit to Sri Lanka's cricket team in Pakistan an attack on the team bus was committed. Attackers fired on the crew, two civilians and six members of the security staff had died. In addition, six players of the cricket team had been injured.

Pakistan has not played home games since the incident. Between Pakistan and Sri Lanka are scheduled in the period from 27 September to 9 October, three one-day internationals and three so-called Twenty20s. The Sri Lankan Federation announced the refusal in a statement, but also stated that it still wanted to nominate a team for the games.
