Goal scorer Wout Weghorst has brought the VfL Wolfsburg with his third goal this season a draw in Dusseldorf. The Dutchman scored in the 29th minute and equalized a Fortuna lead by Niko Gießelmann (16) to 1: 1 (1: 1). After two victories at the start it was the second draw in a row for VfL. Also in Paderborn Wolfsburg had compensated an early backlog.
A nervous start of Fortuna with many minor errors would have punished Maximilian Arnold almost early, but the VfL midfielder missed the free Dusseldorf goal from close range (3). The hosts started fast and played quickly forward, while Erik Thommy and Rouwen Hennings caused a lot of movement around the VfL penalty area.
The courageous offensive game of Fortuna finally rewarded Gießelmann. A cross from the right side by Oliver Fink sailed over all attackers and defenders away to Düsseldorf left-back, who caught him far out in the penalty area and massively completed to 1: 0 (16). Referee Manuel Gräfe decided in the controversial question whether Fortuna defender Matthias Zimmermann has brought the ball before the cross by Fink from the side out, in favor of the Dusseldorf.

The team of Friedhelm Funkel then retired and tried to make the rooms tight. But not close enough for Josip Brekalo, who tunnelled in the 29th minute after strong combination of the VfL offensive Dusseldorf Robin Bormuth at the goal line and Weghorst put the equalizer on.
In the second half of the game both teams avoided the risk and the game became poor in dangerous actions. Just before the end of the game, the guests became more active, but it was not enough to turn the game. Wolfsburg takes over for now the second place in the table behind leaders RB Leipzig. Fortuna Dusseldorf climbs one place to eleventh place.
