Five months after the end of his active career Dirk Nowitzki has been elected chairman of the Players Committee of the World Basketball Federation Fiba. Thus, the 41-year-old sits as a player representative in the 25-member Central Board of Fiba, as the World Association announced.
Nowitzki had his last game for the Dallas Mavericks in April this year. (Read an Appreciation of His Career: The Greatest.)
"I am honored to have this opportunity and look forward to representing players within Fiba and voicing their voices when decisions are made," Nowitzki is quoted in a Fiba release.
The Fiba had created the player post in 2014, the Serb Vlade Divac had him last as the first former active held. The Players' Committee consists of 14 members. The Fiba Central Board has oversight of global basketball developments and is chaired by World Association leader Hamane Niang of Mali. Nowitzki's term runs until 2023.
