Juan Jordan gave Sevilla a 1-0 win at Alaves in La Liga on the final day of the fourth round of La Liga, benefiting from the loss of former leaders Atletico Madrid on Saturday.
The win brings Sevilla to 10 points from three wins and a draw, one point ahead of Atletico Madrid, who last Saturday lost their first defeat of the season to Real Sociedad 2-0.
Alaves had five points in 11th place, and Jordan scored Sevilla's free-kick in the 37th minute.
Sevilla face Azerbaijan's Karabakh next Thursday in the opening of their continental campaign in the Europa League, before hosting Real Madrid in the fifth round of the league.
