For Arsenal it is the third winless game in series: At Watford Unai Emery's team in the Premier League did not go beyond a 2-2 (2-0) out. Former Dortmund boss Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave the North Americans a lead (21-32). In the second half, the defensive then made too many mistakes to save the result over time: Tom Cleverley (53) and Roberto Pereyra by penalty (81) gave Watford in the first game under new coach Quique Sánchez Flores one earned point gain.

In the first 45 minutes, the Gunners did not manage to control the game against the hosts. For efficiency was correct: First Sead Kolasinac led with a vigorous solo the opening goal by Aubameyang (21), then increased the Gabonese from close range to 2: 0 (32). The goal was a worthwhile passport by ex-DFB international Mesut Özil preceded, had staged the assistants Ainsley Maitland-Niles. For Özil it was the first duty game in the current season. The 30-year-old was in the starting XI and was replaced in the 71st minute for Reiss Nelson.

The former German international had missed the first season games because of a disease and an attempted robbery and came back for the first time since the lost Europa League final against Chelsea (1: 4) 109 days ago to a competitive match.

At the time of his replacement, Watford had already shortened to 1: 2: After one of goalkeeper Bernd Leno short on defender Sokratis running kick the ex-Bremer made a serious mistake. Via Gerard Deulofeu, the ball landed at Tom Cleverley, who was able to shoot in without difficulty (53.). Ten minutes before the end of the game, the next blunder on the defensive followed: a David Luiz penalty used Roberto Pereyra to equalize (81 ') - a highly deserved hit, with 30 to seven shots in favor of Watford.

In the Premier League, Arsenal are in seventh place with eight points from five games, and Watford remain in 20th place after the break.
