They were convicted of assaulting civil servants, and now Alexander Kokorin and Pavel Mamayev are free again: Russian footballers have been released from custody.

According to Russian media, Russian former internationals Alexander Kokorin and Pavel Mamayev have been released prematurely due to good conduct. Russian television showed Kokorin and Mamayev leaving the prison in the Belgorod region in southwestern Russia. They did not answer journalists' questions.

The decision on early release was made by Alekseyevka district court at the beginning of September with "the behavior of the convicted persons during their detention". In Alexeyevka is the penal camp, where the two were sitting.

Kokorin was sentenced to 18 months in May and Mamayev to 17 months. Both had attacked senior officials of the Russian Ministry of Commerce in a Moscow cafe last October. One of the officials was attacked with a chair.

Previously, they had attacked the driver of a TV presenter on the street. Both players confronted the police after video footage of the incident surfaced. The seven-month pre-trial detention had been credited to the verdict.

Zenit St. Petersburg announced that it will hold talks with 28-year-old Kokorin about his sporting future. He was last contracted by the Russian champion. Mamajev's club FK Krasnodar, meanwhile, had announced a break from the 31-year-old midfielder.
