Egypt's weightlifters have been banned from international competitions for two years for multiple doping cases. This was announced by the World Association IMF. Thus, the athletes miss the beginning of Wednesday World Cup in Thailand.
If the suspension is valid, Egyptian weightlifters should not compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. However, Egypt is still able to file an appeal with the International Court of Justice Cas Casinos within three weeks against the ban that has been in effect since 12 September.
Background of the lock are several doping offenses (the figures vary between five and seven) of 2016 by Egyptian junior athletes. The IMF regulations provide for two-year bans on national associations if at least three athletes in a country have been convicted of taking prohibited substances within twelve months by a positive doping control.
At the previous Summer Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Egyptian lifters had won a total of two bronze medals. In addition to the Egyptians, the native weightlifters in Pattaya are missing because of doping. Thailand's association is also suspended for international competitions due to a doping scandal.
