Missed finals: In sports this is usually a bitter setback shortly before the finish. But Anna Schell is allowed to cheer at the World Championships in Kazakhstan after the semi finals - over the fifth German Olympic starting place.

Anna Schell has reached the semi-finals at the World Championships wrestling in Kazakhstan in the class up to 68 kilograms freestyle. Thus, the German Wrestling Federation (DRB) can look forward to fifth place at the Olympic Games next year in Tokyo.

In the semifinals Schell was without a chance against the American Tamyra Mensah and lost 0:10. Schell fights for bronze on Friday, Mensah denies the finals against the Swede Jenny Fransson, who prevailed just under 9: 7 against Alla Cherkasova from Ukraine. "Anna wrestled a terrific tournament, it was the tournament of her life," said national coach Patrick Loes.

In addition to Schell, the bronze medalists Frank Stäbler (67 kilograms) and Denis Kudla (87 kilograms) and Eduard Popp (fifth to 130 kilograms) had already secured the Olympic qualification in Greco-Roman style. Former world champion Aline Rotter-Focken took bronze in the class up to 76 kilograms.
