Dutch footballer Kelvin Maynard has been shot dead in Amsterdam, police said.
The 32-year-old defender died when two attackers on a motorcycle opened fire on his car last Wednesday in an area southeast of the Dutch capital, police said.
A police spokeswoman said the motive was still unknown and the cause of the incident and the person involved were not yet known.
She said Maynard had had previous contact with the police, without giving details.
Maynard has been playing this season with Dutch club Alphonse Boys, who have been active in the amateur league and have previously played for several clubs in the Netherlands, Portugal, Hungary, Belgium and England.
