Fourth-seeded German Angelique Kerber qualified for the semi-finals of the Pan Pacific Open in Japan after her American rival Madison Keys withdrew due to an injury in the beginning of the third and decisive game of their match today.
In a little over two hours, Kerber started breaking Keys early in the third set to advance 2-1, and the first two sets ended 6-4 4-6 before Keyes withdrew.
The rest of the quarter-finals have been postponed due to continuous rainfall and Japan's Naomi Osaka will face Yulia Putintseva tomorrow.
