According to a recent survey, half of the football fans in Germany are in favor of video evidence being used in the Bundesliga. The practical implementation, however, ignited the criticism.

It was in the curious scenes not poor history of video evidence in the Bundesliga a new curiosity: In the game of Hertha BSC against SC Paderborn on Saturday, a goal of Hertha after obvious offside position by the video referee once again checked. While the referee remained on the pitch in his offside decision, the scoreboard cheered the audience: "Tor". The technician at the VAR in Cologne had pressed the wrong button.

The public's skepticism about video evidence will not diminish such scenes. After a poll of the fan club FC Play Fair! Nevertheless, in cooperation with the "kicker", half of the respondents basically agreed with the instrument of video evidence because "in principle clear mistakes can be corrected", as stated in the survey of just over 150,000 people. 40 percent, however, reject the video evidence.

However, the main criticism is ignited by the practical implementation. 71 percent describe them as "bad". This is mainly due to the question of hand rules. For example, 90 percent of respondents disagreed with the statement that the interpretation of the hand-held game had become "more comprehensible and clearer". 62 percent complain that the video evidence "takes the emotions" from football.

The FC PlayFair, which has been involved in football since its inception three years ago, takes the numbers as an opportunity to encourage reforms in the current practice. So he argues for the possibility to show the contentious scenes to the spectators in the stadium. In the survey, this option was supported by 78 percent of respondents. The club also demands that the referee in the stadium should decide whether a scene is checked. This could also happen at the request of the participating teams.
