McLaren soon returns with Mercedes engines. The British Formula 1 racing team wants to continue with the change of the drive supplier to a successful partnership.

The Formula 1 racing team McLaren changes the engine partner and returns in 2021 to Mercedes. The McLaren contract with the current drive supplier Renault expires in late 2020. In the following season, the cooperation with Mercedes begins. It should initially go until at least 2024. This was announced by the racing team on its website.

McLaren boss Zak Brown described the deal with Mercedes as an important step "on our way to be successful in the long term formula again: Mercedes is the benchmark, both as a team and with his power unit."

McLaren-Mercedes already looks back on a successful partnership: From 1995 to 2014, the British McLaren team drove engines from the German manufacturer. During this time, the racing team won the driver's title three times and once became a constructors' world champion. The Finn Mika Häkkinen (1998, 1999) and Brit Lewis Hamilton (2008) won the McLaren-Mercedes world title. Currently, the racing team is in fourth place in the constructors' championship, behind Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull.

For Mercedes, the recent cooperation is also positive. Overall, the Silver Arrows with McLaren, Racing Point, Williams and their own factory team then supply four racing teams.
