Formal crisis of BVB: Where are you in trouble?

Against Bremen Borussia Dortmund not only gave a lead, but also a too weak performance in almost all parts of the team. An association is puzzling about its form. "Something is missing," says coach Favre.

In this hitherto disappointing season, the home stadium for the team of Borussia Dortmund was the last feel-good place. Here it was furiously launched against Augsburg in the season, had reconciled after the unexpected defeat at Union, the fans with a gala against Bayer Leverkusen. But after the 2: 2 against Werder Bremen this loan was again playful and the team was adopted with whistles. The current form of BVB raises questions.

Why did the team from the past five games win only one? Why has BVB conceded the most goals from the teams from the upper half of the table? Lucien Favre responded in detail, but lacked pertinent evidence of the reasons.

You do not know it yourself. "Otherwise we would turn it off," said Marco Reus, who a week earlier did not want to lead a debate on the "mentality" of the team. "It's not like we're playing bottomless", Reus rightly pointed out after the draw against Bremen. However, this only makes it more puzzling how BVB was able to drop with two wins after a season opener.

The Dortmund did not win when they made an outstanding match against FC Barcelona in the Champions League. They did not win at Eintracht Frankfurt, as they led twice in a largely superior-run game, and they did not win against a still-improvised Werder in their own stadium, even though they had turned a backlog into a lead.

"Something is missing"

"All in all, the performance was okay, but something is missing," said Favre, without specifying the shortcomings.

Against Werder it was, among other things, the offensive power. Winger Jadon Sancho has not yet recovered his strong form of preseason, his counterpart Thorgan Hazard is not yet the hoped-for gain. In the lead, Mario Götze replaced Paco Alcácer, who had recently faltered, but interpreted this role differently.

"We have to exert more pressure and sometimes nail the opponent to the wall," demanded playmaker Reus. With the goal scoring the team actually has no problem, under Favre it scored in the Bundesliga before home crowd in any game less than two. Against the Bremer makeshift defense but would have been quite more in it.

The defensive problems weigh more heavily this season, the mistakes in the defense are repeated. Manuel Akanji was one week earlier in the interim 1: 1 in Frankfurt too far behind the other members of the back four. That was also the case against Bremen and it was easy for Milot Rashica to reach a comfortable final position without being offside and to score 1-0.

The equalizer to 2: 2 followed on one of only two corners, the Werder played out. It had been "rehearsed", said Bremen coach Florian Kohfeldt that Nuri Sahin flank the ball on a colleague at the first post, which then extend it. It is safe to assume that Dortmund analysts, especially their detailed obsessed coach, were adjusted to the variant. It's a mystery why Reus, weak in the defensive header at the first post, was sent into the duel with Josh Sargent.

Weaknesses against supposedly weaker teams

Against Barcelona and Leverkusen, the playfully probably the highest-class opponents of the previous season, remained the Dortmund in the past few weeks without a clean sheet. In contrast, there were at least two each against Union Berlin, Frankfurt and Bremen.

On Wednesday (18.55 clock, live ticker SPIEGEL / TV: Sky) is waiting again a team of supposedly weaker category. Dortmund play in the Champions League at Slavia Prague, the outsider in the group. Borussia have to quickly find their form, because in Group F, in which Inter Milan is still waiting, frivolous loss of points could quickly take their revenge.
