Wales won the top game in Group D 29:25 (23: 8) against Australia. It seemed the game despite an interim 18-point lead Europeans good ten minutes before the end of the game to tilt. The Australians had come up to one point. But the team of coach Warren Gatland kept the nerves and came in turn by a penalty kick from Rhys Patchell for 29:25. It was the Welshman's first victory in a world championship against Australia in 32 years.
